Elsa Muñoz
INTROSPECTION
July 9
to August 28,
2010
Captivated by the delicacy of a
suspended moment in time, Mexican-American artist Elsa Muñoz's
stylized realist paintings unveil a perfect balance between tension
and beauty. Through her carefully considered fragmented compositions
and sensible palette, Elsa is able to capture an atmosphere tone that
invites the viewer to experience a sense of eerie intimacy.

BLINDSIGHT
May 21 to July
3, 2010
BLINDSIGHT featured a selection of
sculptures and two-dimensional works exploring relationships between
the animal world and the conscious and subconscious human thought
process. BLINSIGHT offered an opportunity for the viewer to interpret
the work in a similar way that a ‘subject’ is asked to interpret an
inkblot from the legendary Rorschach Technique. As the interpretation
of the inkblot theoretically reveals a description into the
subconscious mind of the subject, the viewers’ interpretation in
Roxanne Jackson’s
BLINSIGHT may also provide insight.

Joan Winter
Silent Light
March 12- May 15,2010
Exploring the nature of the visible and the invisible, Winter creates
two and three dimensional forms that convey the inherent parallels
between abstraction and the timeless quality of nature by exploring
ideas of light as the inner source of form and concepts of time
relative to memory, physical changes and movement in space. The
influence of modern Japanese architecture is evident in her creation
of objects that blur the distinction of inside/outside space and play
light against shadow, mass against void. Her careful manipulation of
form from one material to another engages the viewer
by expressing connections between the ways we relate to each other and
the space we inhabit.

Anne Drew Potter
Le Cirque
de L’Armée Rouge
January 8th- March 5th, 2010
Anne Drew Potter’s figurative installation, “Cirque de L’Armée Rouge” is
loaded with references from contemporary literature, hierarchy’s social
roles and recent world history. Le Cirque de L’Armée Rouge
alludes to the dynamics of “followers and leaders” through multiple
allegorical clay sculptures playing roles and displayed as in a frozen
moment in a play. This scene takes place inside the (real or implied) tent
- a reference to a revival tent, campaigning platform, or circus tent.
One of the characters, Jefferson, a politician, a religious figure, a
lecturer, or an entertainer stands high on a podium while a group of 16
children watch and listen in a variety of expressions ranging from outer
boredom to ecstatic excitement. Missy Lee, the "Ticket Taker," stands at
the entrance to collect money in exchange for viewing the spectacle.

Pamela Murphy
"Coalescence"
November 20- December 23, 2009
A two person exhibition at Dubhe Carreño Gallery entitled
“Coalescence” will explore two voices in contemporary
figuration by painter Pamela Murphy and ceramic sculptor Amanda Bray.
While divergent in their approach to process and medium, Murphy and Bray
are united in their shared fascination with the human form as a tool for
narration. Through the representation and isolation of the human
form from its environment; both artists allude to the familiar as well as
the universal inviting the viewer to construct stories based on
metaphorical elements within their work.

Karen Swyler
"Still"
November 20- December 23, 2009
In “Still,”
Swyler
presents elegant porcelain
vessels shaped on the potter's wheel that with a minimal aesthetic
address the nuances of human communication and interaction though the
suggestion of human gesture, proximity and formal relationship.
“My specific
interest lies in subtle exchanges that occur in intimate situations,
frequently without words. Vessel forms are vehicles for
representation of understated human emotions and delicate situations.”

Thomas Schmidt
"S k i n"
Sep. 11- Nov.
7, 2009
In “Skin,”
Schmidt presents seductive and flawlessly constructed works, in
porcelain and on printed acetate, driven by his ongoing exploration of
materials and processes. The surface treatment of his work reveals
time-based processes that allude to memory and how it is recorded and
transformed. His carefully designed forms and random organic imagery
on his surfaces generate a dialogue between industrial manufacturing
and natural processes.
